Climate change is forcing many people to leave their homes due to rising sea levels, extreme weather, and environmental disasters. Often called climate refugees, these individuals are not clearly protected under current international law. In the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the agenda item Climate Refugees focuses on addressing the human rights challenges of climate-induced displacement and exploring ways the international community can better protect affected populations.
